Biological information monitoring in emergency medical care

(救急医療における生体情報モニタリング)

In emergency medical care, the degree of lifesaving intervention is judged by evaluating the health of the patient. The characteristics of emergency medical care are urgency and work in a limited space such as in an ambulance. Therefore, we are aiming to contribute to the emergency medical care by developing a method for evaluating the health of patients using a simple and small device.

Estimation of tissue oxygen saturation at web of hand by transmitted light intensity analysis

Keisuke Morikawa, Makoto Adachi

In emergency medical care, oxygen saturation (SO2) is one of the indexes to evaluate the health of patients. In our laboratory, we are constructing a new estimation method to solve problems such as the necessity of pulsation detection in the existing SO2 estimation device. Specifically, SO2 is estimated by measuring the intensity of transmitted light at web of hand and analyzing the degree of light absorption. In addition, in order to verify its effectiveness, we estimate SO2 using this method and the existing device, INVOS 5100C and pulse oximeter, with the blood flow condition deteriorated by cuff compression, and compare the results.

Video Image Analysis for Conjugate Deviation Assessment

Naoki Ikezawa, Zin Watanabe

The pre-hospital scale is the assessment and diagnosis of a patient's condition prior to transporting an emergency patient to the hospital. The pre-hospital scale enables us to select an appropriate hospital and reduce the time spent in the field. There are four other examination items such as synoptic paralysis, facial paralysis, and aphasia, and these items are integrated to diagnose the severity of the disease. However, quantitative diagnosis of the patient in the ambulance is required because it is sometimes difficult for the paramedics to make decisions. Therefore, we are aiming to construct a quantitative diagnostic system for joint paralysis. Specifically, we quantify the movement of the eye from video images taken by the camera and evaluate the tracking ability.
