Progress Report - Chiba University COE Startup Program
Highly Accurate and Less-invasive Diagnosis and Treatment for Gastrointestinal Cancer

Three years ago, our research project named “Technologies to assist Highly Accurate and Less-invasive Diagnosis and Treatment for Gastrointestinal Cancer (HALIDAT-GC for short) was adopted as Chiba University COE startup program. This project is aiming to establish image-based technologies to assist less-invasive diagnosis and treatment of mainly gastrointestinal cancer. The research topics include tissue characterization using high-frequency ultrasound imaging, elasticity imaging using MRI and ultrasound, catheter guide in interventional radiology under natural breathing, 4D-MRI reconstruction of thoracoabdominal organ and its application to treatment planning, circulation and viability monitoring by optical devices, projector-based assistance for laparoscopic surgery, and the surgical navigation system with 3D ultrasound imaging. The progress of these topics in 2013 will be overviewed.
