Development of biological tissue equivalent phantom for electromagnetic field

An electromagnetic tissue-equivalent phantom is used to do an evaluation of electromagnetic energy absorption in biological tissue and do a characteristic evaluation of an antenna experimentally placed near biological tissue. This type of phantom needs to have electric constants equal to biological tissue. The electric constants of biological tissue vary by kinds and parts with respect to the frequency of electromagnetic waves used for a measurement. In this laboratory, we have developed various types of electromagnetic tissue-equivalent phantoms to use. Figure A is a graph comparing literature values with measured values for electric constants of an electromagnetic tissue-equivalent phantom. Over a wide frequency range, the measured values match the values in the literature. Figure B shows a scene in which we measured an electromagnetic energy absorption -irradiated from an antenna near the head-by the thermographic method.
