TITLE

TB can't be controlled without new technologies

LECTURER

ABSTRACT

The lecturer will introduce the current situation of Tuberculosis and recent challenges according to his experiences in Asia and Africa to discuss why international collaboration is necessary in TB care and control. A lecture will include necessity of developing new technologies and expectation to Japan. For carrier development of students and young professionals, he will show his experiences of “Link of clinical medicine and public health - How clinical experiences are useful in public health work” and “what WHO (UN) work is like including a life in Geneva”.

AREAS OF STUDIES

The lecturer spent more than half of his career in abroad that includes 3 years in Nepal, and 4 years in Cambodia, to implement modern TB care based on evidences by operational and epidemiological researches. In 2007, he moved to WHO headquarters. He is now leading a global project to carry out TB prevalence survey in more than 20 countries in Asia and Africa. His area of studies are International Health, Respiratory Medicine, Infectious Disease Control, TB care and control, Operational Research and Population based epidemiological study.
