ABSTRACT
Peripheral magnetic stimulation (PMS) is an emerging non-invasive technique with promising applications in rehabilitation medicine and neurological disorders. This talk will explore the principles of PMS, its advantages over traditional electrical stimulation methods, and its current applications in clinical practice. We will discuss recent technological advancements in PMS devices, including the development of portable systems. The presentation will highlight ongoing research in various fields, from muscle activation to pain management, with a special focus on potential applications in pediatric rehabilitation. By examining the challenges and opportunities in PMS research, we aim to stimulate interdisciplinary discussions and inspire future innovations in this exciting field of biomedical engineering.
Biography
Rigoberto Martínez Méndez, PhD, is a Professor at the Faculty of Engineering, Autonomous University of the State of Mexico. He holds a PhD in Artificial Systems Engineering from the Graduate School of Engineering at Chiba University, Japan, where his research focused on wearable inertial sensors for human movement analysis. His research interests include bioinstrumentation, robotics, wearables, and control systems. Dr. Martínez Méndez is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), a member of the National System of Researchers (SNI-I) in Mexico, and the Mexican Society of Biomedical Engineering (SOMIB). His current work focuses on developing innovative technologies for medical applications, particularly in the field of rehabilitation engineering.
